Meetings of the American Association of Individual Investors [AAII]AAII is a national, non-profit organization dedicated to investor education. The AAII-Chicago Chapter offers a schedule of monthly meetings (September through May) featuring prominent local and national speakers. For further information, visit website AAII -Chicago Chapter. Regional subgroups of the Chicago-AAII Chapter provide an informal atmosphere for individual investors to meet and discuss topics of common interest.
...meets at 7 PM on the Fourth Tuesday of each month, January through November [NO meeting in December!], at the Northbrook Chamber of Commerce Building, 2002 Walters Avenue, Northbrook, Illinois (Click Here for Directions). NEXT MEETING DATE: TUESDAY, JULY 27 -- 7 PM
Guest Host and NorthShore subgroup member Marshall Ball will steer you through his selecting process that seeks above-average securities. He uses the AAII Stock Investor Pro database as well as AAII's Shadow stock rules for initial screening. To illustrate his methods, Marshall will study Flexsteel [ ticker: FLXS ] and International Shipholding [ ISH ] using online demonstrations of the database. He'll discuss the particular data parameters he gives the most weight. In addition to the screening process, Ball will illustrate how he uses technical analysis tools and websites to help find buy and sell decision points. This meeting offers something of interest to all stock-pickers and also will help fund investors understand how the managers they "hire" do their jobs.
YOUR assignment for JULY... You will learn the most if you look up the two companies (see above) that Marshall will discuss before you come to the meeting so you are generally familiar with them. If your preferred stock assessment sources have opinions about these two stocks, bring a few copies of those along to broaden the discussion.
In recent months North Shore meetings have been vibrant... ...because long-time investors realize there can be lots of opportunity when so many others are too scared to buy! The Sturgeon General of California has determined that second-hand stock tips may be hazardous to your wealth... so only buy fruits and vegetables from California, not California nuts. Satisfaction with these meetings is not guaranteed because even the President of the Untied Slates gets dissed most of the time. Discussion at North Shore meetings may include disinformation, misinformation or ugly factoids... persons under 18 will not be admitted without a stockholder. The average investment reward realized by people attending North Shore AAII Subgroup meetings is a wonder to behold, but we admit those rewards are not growing as fast as the national debt.
FUTURE MEETING DATES August 24, 2010 [4th Tuesday!] -- An overview of the new book "This Time Is Different" by Carmen Reinhart and Kenneth Rogoff. [we'll cover: How do financial crises develop? Is the current one unique? What's best predicts an upcoming crisis? How do countries get out of crisis?] September 28, 2010 [4th Tuesday!] -- Guest Host to be announced
